For Sale: Max Holste MH1521 Broussard – Iconic French STOL Aircraft

Price: $149,500

Location: Hot Springs, South Dakota, KHSR

For sale is a rare and historic Max Holste MH1521 Broussard, one of the most versatile and rugged utility aircraft ever built.

The Max Holste MH1521 Broussard was designed and built by the French aircraft manufacturer Max Holste in the early 1950s as a rugged STOL aircraft for military use.

Capable of carrying up to 6 passengers, it was used in a variety of roles by the French Air Force, mainly as a transport and reconnaissance plane

in the demanding conditions of the French colonial territories where it operated from short, unimproved airstrips and remote locations.

Max Holste produced 363 Broussards, the last of which were retired from the French Army in the 1990's. There are approximately 25 airworthy Broussards remaining worldwide, including 14 within the United States.

In terms of design and performance, the Broussard shares many similarities with the famous De Havilland Beaver, earning it the nickname "The French Beaver". The two aircraft have relatively equal size and capabilities, with the main design difference being the Broussard’s twin tails, allowing full rudder control at low airspeeds.

While the De Havilland Beaver has become an aviation legend, the Broussard remains a rare and highly sought-after gem for enthusiasts and collectors alike.
